So, what's new?01-30-12 Leap Year Shift. We discovered that now that we are in 2012, which is a leap year, that when entering a date range in data analysis for last year, the program shifts your date and uses one day before the one you entered. This has been corrected. 01-24-12 A special request from Tipler Middle School has been added. Look for the 'Crystal Ball' icon on the 'Utilities' window. If you click on this, you can enter a date in the future and then view records and lists to see what Honor Level students will have on that date (assuming no more infractions are received.) Click the 'Crystal Ball' again to return to the correct date. When viewing a student record with this date shift active, you will notice that the Honor Level and current Status of the student is highlighted in yellow to warn you that this is a peek into the future and not the actual case. 12-14-11 This update adds nothing new to the program. It includes a minor change that allows the program to try to correct a missing file problem on its own after an installation was aborted because of networking inadequate networking privileges. 12-13-11 We discovered an error 76 in a routine that was designed to restore a record that has been previously deleted. This year's version of HLS uses new names for the daily back up files and the recovery procedure was still looking for the older file name. This has been corrected. 12-07-11 It was brought to our attention that in the new Custum to in Data Analysis that you might ask the software to print a report that can be many many pages long. We have added a prompt that will let you know that a request is going to use a lot of paper and give you the opportunity to change your mind. 11-30-11 We have found that some schools with a very large turnover in student population can end up with an excessive number or records that have been flagged as 'Withdrawn'. We have added a button to the groups window when you view a list of your withdrawn students that will allow you to delete them easily. You will be given several choices so that you can delete all of them or only those that have had no infractions. You will also find options to delete only those have entries older than 30, 60 or 90 days. 11-21-11 This update changes none of the HLS programming. It replaces an older debbugging feature that printed a page we would ask the user to fax us. Now if we need to see this debugging data, the program will copy it to the clipboard where it can be pasted into an message and emailed to us. 11-21-11 This update is for one of our schools that is having trouble with a printer that wants to print on both sides of the paper. 11-16-11 If your software is not registered it will expire 90 days from the date you first start using it. We normally register the software after payment has been received. If the software is not registered a reminder is displayed when you launch the program after the expiration date becomes 30 days or less away. We have added a provision that will allow us to extend the time so that your software will not expire. We only want to remind people about their payment, we do not want to actually let the software expire. If you are seeing a message that says your software will expire if 14 days or less, call us and we will help you extend it. 11-11-11 This update fixes an obscure error that only occurs if a user is trying to access archived data from a previous year that included a sharing path that pointed to a drive that no longer exists on your network. 11-08-11 This update changes none of the HLS programming. Some schools run multiple directories of the HLS data because some grades have very different settings than others. These schools will now see the title of the directory they have currently loaded into HLS on the home screen so that they can easily confirm which data set they are using at any given time. 11-07-11 This is a minor update that affects only schools that assign 'Bonus Points' to large groups of students all at once. The frame (in data analysis) that displays these options was being partly covered by other frames that should have disappeared when the button was clicked. This has been corrected. 11-02-11 A new prompt that gave you the choice to include or exclude withdrawn students in Data Analysis was causing some names to be duplicated in the 'Rank Order' list. This has been corrected. 10-27-11 We received a call from Clague Middle School that they were having troubles viewing last year's record on one of their students using the button on the student record window. They had no trouble viewing the record using the 'Archive Assistant' in 'Utilities'. We were able to duplicate their problem and fix it. 10-26-11 When activating networking on a new computer, the program sometimes runs into road blocks because network settings and folder privileges prevent the user from continuing. Sometimes this results in files being written with incomplete or missing data. The incomplete files then prevent the program from relaunching. This update attempts to detect these partial files and correct them so that the program can launch without networking allowing the user to work until district tech support people can set up the network drives and folders with the required settings. If you are attempting to activate networking we recommend that you install this update first. 10-25-11 Schools who use Minor Infractions should update their software now. Antigo Middle School called to let me know that the spelling checker is appearing when they have spelled the student name correctly and forcing them to chose it again from the list. This has been fixed. 10-20-11 This is a minor update that does not effect the schools. It fixes a problem that we were having in the routine that creates the Startup log at schools that have ever opened the Custom Data Analysis tool window. This log helps us serve you better. If you update your software, please send us a copy of your startup log after you relaunch the program. Here is how you do that or click here to see what else is new.
10-13-11 A print button has been added to the 'Demerit History' window so that the graphs shown there can be printed on paper. 10-12-11 This update addresses an error that occurs when someone uses a character in a defined group title that would be invalid in a file name. The group definitions are stored in .cdg files that use the title as a file name. Some characters are not allowed. The program will test for these characters and ask you to enter a new title if needed. 10-11-11 We have added a new window to help a new publisher who is having difficulty logging into HLS because the system thinks another user is currently logged on as a publisher. This window offers several options and text help. Also, in our new Custom tool in Data Analysis, we found that in rare situations, the program will lock up and not let you do anything. This happened when a student had a completely full record, but before an record extension had been created. This has been fixed. 10-06-11 Schools that were using our new Time and Location option last year are finding that those settings did not carry over to this new school year. We have had to manually reactivate the feature for many schools. This update will do that for us automatically. This update has no affect on schools that have already activated their Time and Location option. It mainly makes things go smoother for schools that have not reactivated it for this year. If you were using the Time and Location option last year and do not see it this year, this update should turn it on for you with the same times and locations you saw before. 10-05-11 We discovered a problem with the new Times and Location feature. If you are entering infractions and have items with different dates during the same entry session, the time and location entries might shift between the entries. ANYONE USING TIMES AND LOCATIONS SHOULD UPDATE THE SOFTWARE NOW. 10-03-11 The new Custom Data Analysis tool was acting up at one of our schools. We ended up with an empty folder in the shared network directory and the software insisted that there were no infractions. We have fixed the software so that it can detect this problem and fill the folder with the needed data allowing you to proceed with the report. 09-30-11 If a school was running both 'Full Networking' AND 'Multiple Directories', the shortcut to the Network Admin Program on the log in window did not work. This has been fixed. 09-28-11 This year's version of HLS is being real fussy about allowing the same network user to log on as a publisher at two different machines at the same time. Sometimes it gets confused and thinks you are on a different machine when you are not. We have given you a way to over rule the program and log in even though, it thinks you shouldn't. If you find yourself in a situation where this would be necessary, the warning message will tell you what to do to get around this stubbornness. 09-27-11 The Web Engine has been updated so that users can view detention lists by grade level. 09-23-11 A school called and reported getting an error 55 when exporting infractions as an editor. We were able to duplicate the error and it has been corrected. 09-22-11 We have made the web page engine activation procedure work more smoothly and updated it to me compatible with earlier changes to the software. 09-21-11 If an archive of last year's data exists on your hard drive, a button appears on the student's record that allows you to quickly view it. Until now, the software searched the archive for a record with the same student ID number. Some schools use different ID numbers each year and this feature couldn't find a match. Now if no match is found, it will search again to see if it can match the student name. It will compare the phone numbers of the two records and allow you to view the record. It will ask you if this was the correct student. If you reply with 'Yes' it will remember that record if you ask to view it again later. 09-14-11 Some schools have asked to be able to print Honor Level Lists that show student ID numbers instead of names. A check box has been added to allow this option. 09-12-11 This update simply specifies the font the printer will use when you print the table of Honor Level numbers. If you launched the program and printed this table first, the table would use the last font sent to the printer which was not always appropriate. 09-11-11 Error 52 Fix. This update takes care of an error that appears when printing Welcome Back slips. If you are getting this error, please be sure to update your software now. 08-11-11 The software has been updated for the 2011-2012 school year. 06-19-11 thru 06-30-11 Special requests from our Bernalillo County project have been added. 06-16-11 Many routines in the HLS program use the student ID number to create unique file names. This update checks the user's entries when editing biographic data and makes sure that an ID number is there. The user will not be able to close the window without filling in the student ID field. 06-01-11 We have changed our approach to identifying individual machines networking HLS. We discovered a problem in one school where more than one computer was running the Honor Level application from the same location on the network and not the local machine. We always recommend that the program be installed on each machine separately. Sharing the application on a network server creates problems. However, we will continue to address them as they are discovered. 06-01-11 We have added an 'Update Assistant' to help schools running HLS from a non-standard folder location 'Unzip' their updates to the correct folder by pasting their path in the WinZip window. We have also added a 'Quick Update' routine that will easily update other computers running HLS in your building after anyone downloads a new version from this site. 05-11-11 We have made the custom graph feature in Data Analysis more efficient so graphs are drawn much quicker. 04-01-11 This update fixes a minor error in the site editor that occurred when a user tried to uncheck one of the 'serve once' boxes. 04-01-11 It was brought to our attention that if the user wanted to export a list in 'groups' to an Excel file but save the file on a network drive, the program crashed. This has been corrected. 04-01-11 This update is very minor. It simply removes some redundancy in the start up log to shorten the file. 03-29-11 This update corrects an error that was a minor nuisance when installing the program onto a new computer that would be configured with the 'Simple Networking' option. 03-25-11 This update adds a check box to 'Edit Options #3' that will disable the SMTP reporting routine for schools who have SMTP blocked or do not want reports sent to us. It also links users to a web page where reports can be pasted into an email message if SMTP does not work for them. 03-24-11 This update resolves an issue where some districts restrict programs from sending reports via email. Instead of getting an error 5, the program will open a web page where the user can paste the report into a message and attempt to send it that way. 02-16-11 Up until now printing in HLS has always gone to your computer's default printer. We have added a button to utilities that will allow you to select a different printer should the need arise. 02-15-11 The feature that we added with the 02-07-11 (see below) works TOO good. It was designed to show you a list of students who ARE NOT in the group you selected. It was even including Withdrawn Students because, of course they were not in the group. This update makes sure that they are not added to your list. 02-08-11 This update includes a special request for Stahl Junior High. We have added an option to track students who cross a threshold into HL3 or HL4 and also those who return to HL1. The option can be turned on in the site editor (Options #3) and will then be found on the 'Groups' menu. If this is a feature you would like to use, we suggest you call us and we will explain the options. 02-07-11 This update includes a simple addition to the 'Groups' routines that has recently come up twice in requests from schools. It is a check box that allows you to select one of the regular groups and then bring up all the students who are NOT in that group. For example, one school wanted a list of all the students who were not All Stars. You select the group as you normally would and then put a check in the box where it says 'Show Complement.' When you view the list, instead of getting the students who are All Stars you get the ones who are NOT All Stars. 'Complement' is a mathematical term used with sets of data. 02-05-11 Prepared the software for the new year for our New Zealand schools. 01-15-11 This update includes a minor addition to the program that allows us to repair or edit site data files for a school and then email the files to them. Rather than have the user delete the original files and then rename the new ones, we have added code that will detect the new files and take care of the changes for them. 01-11-11 Schools 'Beta Testing' the new Custom Data Analysis and Export Tool could not graph data by time. The program would crash with an error when they tried. This has been corrected. 01-06-11 The new Custom Data Analysis and Export Tool requires that student records include a Student ID Number. We have added a button in DR. HLS will add Pseudo ID numbers to the records if a school's HLS data does not included them. This will allow them to take advantage of the new tool. 12-16-10 Many new features have been added to the Custom Data Analysis and Export Tool that is described in the update listed below. The printing routines are much more robust and there is a tool to edit the title and colors of your graphs. 11-19-10 A Beta version of a new Custom Data Analysis and Export Tool has been added for anyone to try. This is a tool that we have been creating for schools experimenting with the new Time and Location feature that was introduced in the 10-04-10 update. Before now you needed to activate the Time and Location feature to see this tool. Now you will find it with all the other Data Analysis Tools. Click on the tab that says: Custom (the tab will be labeled: T & L if you are using Time and Location). There is no documentation for this new tool, yet. However you will find that it allows you to sort and filter your data which can then be graphed or exported to your favorite spread sheet program. We encourage you experiment with this tool Try clicking titles and columns with both your right and left mouse buttons. Many surprises can be found there. Click anywhere on a graph to sort the bars. If you choose to print the graphs, expect a longer than normal time for the printer to respond. Currently the graphs are produced with hundreds of tiny graphic images which will extend the print time. |
